I have been trying to get a decent shot of the Northern Flickers near the office. There has been at least one elusive pair around for a few weeks doing a great job of hiding and then flying off when I get close. Even today, the female was doing a good job of avoiding me. After flying to a succession of trees, she finally stayed put just long enough for me to get an image. Fortunately, the spring growth has not filled in the trees yet.
As you can tell, her head is in the shadow of a branch. I coordinated adjustments to the fill, contrast and brightness to bring up the detail while maintaining the exposure on her tail which needed no adjustment.
